The property

Resting in the historic medieval town of Tewkesbury in the heart of the town is this ground-floor cottage, The Old Paper Shop, converted from an old shop as the name suggests into a beautiful and traditionally styled holiday home.

Marvel at the incredible original features that it retains, including the elm hardwood floorboards, limewashed walls, original wall panels, and elegant fireplace, all perfectly styled with antique furnishings. Step from the street straight into the open-plan living space which is home to an elegant sofa and armchair, with a vintage wall-hanging which swings round to reveal a Smart TV, you can relax in here during the evening.

A lovely table and chairs rests next to the entrance of the compact kitchen area, fitted with a microwave combination oven, a fridge and a 2-ring electric hob, you have all you need to rustle up some breakfasts, picnics and quick evening meals when you're not dining out in one of the many amazing restaurants.

A clever feature has been made of the original timber frames with a window set into the kitchen wall showcasing the original wattle and daub wall and beams, dating back around 500 years. Walk round to the bedroom to find a lovely king-size bed amidst the rich green painted walls, leading into a stunning en-suite shower room which is in-keeping with the medieval style.

Explore the town of Tewkesbury, one of the few places where you will see mostly half-timbered building and with 350 listed buildings here too, it is home to a wealth of heritage.

Visit Tewkesbury Abbey, a 12th century Norman feat dominating the town, with tours available up to the town to take in stunning views of the town below, and experience the 1471 final battle of the Wars of the Roses re-enacted each year at the Medieval Fayre in July. Wander down Tewkesbury's 30 narrow alleyways, linking the main streets and the River Avon, you can browse independent shops and boutiques, stop in at quaint tearooms and cafés or delight in a well-deserved drink in the evening.

Home of Jump Racing, Cheltenham Racecourse is within easy reach of Tewkesbury and is a fantastic day out, with The Cheltenham Festival taking place in March each year, it comes alive with 4 days of racing.

If you enjoy walking, then ensure you leave time to head into the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty where you will come across pretty English villages and breath-taking countryside scenery.

Within reach of the county town of Gloucester too, The Old Paper Shop is a wonderful romantic getaway in Tewkesbury.
