The property

The Old Oak Tree Barn is an historic building with some outstanding views that make it a wonderful holiday cottage option.

Forming one half of the historic King John's Barn, once the rallying point for huntsmen coming from the nearby Wychwood Forest, "The Old Oak" is situated in a classic rural location near to the Cotswolds' villages of Shipton under Wychwood and Leafield - both within easy striking distance of Burford and Chipping Norton.

Inside, the property is absolutely spotless and clean it is furnished neatly and has a relaxing feel when you arrive.

Smaller than it's bigger brother The Gallery, it is just as appealing and comfortable.

On the ground floor is an open plan space with all of the main elements you would expect including a well kitted kitchen upstairs are two en-suite bedrooms - ideal for two couple if staying.

We've enjoyed promoting this barn for over 15 years and have had many, many happy customers.

We think you'll enjoy it too! This holiday cottage is likely to appeal to families looking to enjoy open space while having easy access to local amenities.

About the location

Witney 5 miles, Burford 6 miles, Stow on the Wold 13 miles, Oxford 19 miles

Leafield is centred round the ancient village Greens, common land now used as an area for children’s play and a site for fêtes. There was originally a pond on the north western part of the Greens, but it was filled in the late 1950s.

At the eastern end of the Greens is the village cross. Only the base remains of the original, the shaft having been destroyed by vandals around 1850. In 1873 the cross was restored to commemorate the inhabitants deliverance from smallpox.

Although the village was established by at least the 11th century, there are few medieval remains and these are limited to features in houses that were later extensively rebuilt. St Michael and All Angels’ church, built in 1859, is an outstanding example of the work of Sir George Gilbert Scott, though the previous chapels on the site date back to at least the fifteenth century. The picturesque school on the Greens was established in 1839 and has altered little over the past 100 years.

Nineteenth century Baptist and Primitive Methodist chapels have been converted into houses, as have three former inns, the smithy, the bakery, the butchers and other village shops of the nineteenth and early twentieth century.

Nowadays, and after being closed for a number of years, the village needs are served by The Fox, a traditional country pub, with the emphasis being very much on proper pub grub rather than fine dining!

Note: There is a refundable good housekeeping bond of £50 required either in advance or payable by cheque on arrival. Sofa bed available for extra guest for £40 per person, per week. Cot & High Chair available.
