“Please note that the property directions mentioned that it was opposite a Spar Supermarket, and after going around in circles for a while looking for this supermarket, it was apparent that this is now a Budgens.”

A minor change to these directions would be beneficial.

“This is a very cute - and very small - cottage.”

The stairs are extremely steep and could be dangerous for some people. We were 3 adults and it was very good weather so we were outdoors all the time in the lovely garden space. The kitchen bin under the sink had not been emptied so that was the first thing that I had to do when I arrived which I was not terribly happy about. Also there were a lot of cobwebs in the property. The neighbours back garden path backs onto the kitchen and the bathroom and she did pop her head thro the bathroom window to speak to my husband about some renovation work while he was in the shower!! Otherwise the location was great, village shop well stocked, and we had a very nice stay thank you.

“Lovely well equipped cottage, in the centre of the village.”

Beautiful ancient church. The villagers are very friendly. Two great pubs and a brewery. Easy walking along the disused railway.line. The houses and cottages are enchanting. Close to Chipping Norton for shopping, although there is a brilliant Spar shop in the village. Other Cotswold favourites very assessable. Care needed with staircase but worth it. What’s not to like.

“The property was small (but perfectly formed!”

). It was perfect for a couple of nights but any longer would have been a struggle without storage for hanging items etc. We did squeeze in two adults, two teenagers and two dogs without too many issues. The outside space was great especially with the lovely weather. The location is ideal for exploring the cotswolds and the village is really lovely. Next door neighbours were really helpful too! The advertised check in time of 6pm was the main thing that would put me off using Sykes cottages again as very late compared to others we have used.

“The cottage was ok, the village was lovely and the locals very friendly.”

We had some lovely days out at Bletchley, Blenheim Palace, Bourton on the Water and Hidcote however the whole holiday was over shadowed by the following: The bed was the most uncomfortable bed we have ever slept in. You could feel every spring pushing into your back and there was no support. It really needs replacing. The freezer was completely iced up and we had to hack the ice away just to get into one drawer. The following day it was iced up again and it's quite clear why this happened. The freezer door is not fitted properly so the door doesn't actually close so the motor is over producing ice as it is fighting the temperature in the room. Another small matter, the smoke alarm, whilst great to have, was so sensitive we couldn't even make toast without it going off. It went off every day of the holiday and must be really annoying for the neighbours. Finally, the boiler made the most horrendous noise every time the hot tap was turned on. We would struggle to recommend this cottage due to these issues.

Many thanks for your feedback on Orchard Cottage. Your comments have been taken onboard and the mattress is being replaced week commencing the 11th October. In relation to the freezer, we are very sorry, this was an oversight and one we tried to rectify before your arrival. This is now working correctly. The smoke alarm has been moved to avoid it going off too often. There is no boiler in the property and the noise comes from the water pump and unfortunately this is not something that can be changed, but the noise should not be loud enough to bother guests. “It was an extremely clean and very nice cottage which suited the purpose in a lovely village.”

Was a lovely stay and we would potentially use the cottage again. My reasons for not giving higher rating is that the price for 2 nights was very very excessive. If we didn’t need to find somewhere we would not have considered staying at somewhere so expensive. It was also a lot smaller than anticipated - the photos did not tell that story. It was not a problem, but it was a very small cottage which should be somewhere in the literature

“The kitchen window wouldn't open and the smoke alarm went off every time we used the toaster !”

-The staircase is particularly difficult for older people. -In very hot weather, like we experienced, the small bedrooms became extremely warm and fan would be a good addition. -People in the town were extremely friendly and the butchers are excellent. -The cottage itself is very well appointed and decorated.

The property

Orchard Cottage is a wonderful cottage situated in the heart of this lovely village.

The cottage is flooded with natural light and the open plan living and dining area is full of charm and character, with exposed Cotswold stone walls, exposed beams and flagstone flooring giving it a real cosy feeling.

A step up leads into the well-equipped and tastefully decorated galley style kitchen boasting a breakfast bar.

From here the bright and contemporary bathroom is accessed.

Upstairs you will find both bedrooms with elegant furnishings. The stunning tiered garden sits at the front of the property and is a wonderful spot to soak up the summer sunshine.

Bordered by mature shrubs and featuring beautiful trees and raised flower beds, the garden comprises two tiers, both of which have outdoor tables with seating for four.

A parasol and charcoal barbecue are also provided, perfect for making the most of this delightful outside space. Pubs, shops and fantastic walks are literally all on your doorstep!
