“There are a few issues of practicality: The beds are too large for the rooms, in particular the smaller of the two where it is not possible to get round the end of the bed which would mean climbing over your partner if you needed the loo.”

Finally I think it should be pointed out in the description that staircase to the bedrooms is quite steep and narrow and the bedroom floors slope so some less able people my struggle. Generally the “look”, which is very good, has taken precedence over comfort and convenience.

Thank you for your comments. It is a shame that the property did not suit you. Howman House is a Grade II Listed period townhouse, showcasing many features of the era. This will provide a different experience from staying in a modern property. We do our best to represent our properties accurately, through photographs and written descriptions, so that customers can choose a property to meet their needs. Photographs are included of the stairs and kitchen seating arrangements, which you mentioned. We have updated the written description since you booked, highlighting the limitations of the property. The owner has provided roomy comfortable beds so that guests can enjoy a pleasant night’s sleep. But there are constraints to the size of the rooms. We hope you enjoyed the central location in the popular town of Stow on the Wold and were able to explore the surrounding Cotswolds. Best wishes Manor Cottages Property Owner

Stow is home to a number of restaurants, pubs, tearooms and shops, and every second Thursday of the month, the Farmers’ Market sets up in the market square, showcasing quality local produce.

Overlooked by St Edward's Church, the picturesque market square retains its old town stocks, medieval cross and narrow alleys, or "tures", which wind their way from the surrounding streets into the square. The highest of the Cotswold towns, Stow is surrounded by breathtaking countryside, with far-reaching rural views guaranteed along any local footpath.

It is also well-placed for exploring the many scenic towns and villages of the area including Moreton-in-Marsh, Broadway, Bourton-on-the-Water and Kingham.

Further afield destinations such as Cirencester, Blenheim Palace and Oxford are within easy reach for day trips.

Howman House is the ideal retreat for those seeking a getaway in the heart of a bustling market town.

Nestled between two shop fronts, the front door opens into an attractive entrance hall with storage space for coats and shoes.

The staircase leads up into the living room, and the following rooms are on the first floor: Living room: Overlooking the historic market square, this elegantly styled living area boasts exposed beams, a panelled feature wall and a glass banister.

With beautiful furnishings, this room contains a two-seater sofa, two armchairs, cowhide stool, ornamental fireplace, wall-mounted Smart TV and a selection of board games; Kitchen: The tastefully decorated kitchen showcases some of the original Cotswold stone walls and has a picturesque outlook towards St Edward's Church.

This lovely room contains an electric oven with four-ring gas hob, fridge with small freezer compartment, Nespresso coffee machine, dishwasher, toaster, kettle, cafetière and a smart wooden table with seating for four. A winding staircase leads up from the first floor landing to the second floor landing, off which are the following rooms: Master bedroom: This luxurious bedroom overlooks the square and contains a king size bed, wall hooks, two bedside tables, a mirror and a stool; Bedroom 2: Featuring stylish furnishings, this bedroom contains a double bed, clothes rail, two bedside tables, mirror and stool; Family bathroom: Finished to a high standard, the striking bathroom contains a walk-in rain shower with separate handheld shower attachment, toilet, wash basin and heated towel rail.

About the location

STOW-ON-THE-WOLD

Bourton-on-the-Water 4 miles; Stratford upon Avon 15 miles.

The highest town in the Cotswolds, Stow-on-the-Wold, originally an Iron Age Fort, epitomises olde worlde England. This ancient market town has played host to many fairs since the 12th century and today holds a biannual Gypsy Horse Fair, craft fairs and monthly Farmers' market. The vast market square boasts an ancient cross at one end and the village stocks at the other, surrounded by an elegant array of Cotswold stone townhouses, antique shops, tea rooms, traditional pubs, award-winning restaurants and its very own cricket museum. Many walks and cycle rides through the beautiful rolling countryside of the Cotswolds can be enjoyed from the centre of Stow, with the Macmillan Way, Heart of England Way, Gloucestershire and Monarch's Way all running close to the town. Bourton-on-the-Water, known as the 'Venice of the Cotswolds' as the River Windrush runs through the centre, lies in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is one of the most popular Cotswold villages. The Saxon market town of Moreton-in-Marsh and the quintessential English village of Broadway are all within easy reach and make a great day out. Cheltenham (20 miles away) is, architecturally, the most complete regency town in England. A spa town with an incredible range of shops, cinemas, theatres, restaurants and pubs, it is famous for its horse-racing festival in March, culminating in the Gold Cup steeplechase. At other times of year, it is host to literature, jazz, classical music, science and food and drink festivals. Oxford, the oldest university city in England and sometimes called 'The City of Dreaming Spires’ has an abundance of prestigious attractions, including the 38 colleges of the university (half of which date back before 1600), the oldest university teaching room, the Bodleian Library, Ashmolean and Pitt Rivers Museums, and Botanic Gardens. Stratford-upon-Avon, Bath, Worcester and the waterfront city of Gloucester are also within easy reach, making Stow-on-the-Wold an ideal base.

Note: Children under ten are not accepted at this property.

Note: This is an old, Grade II listed property with many character features including steep stairs and some restricted head height, both of which could pose difficulty to guests with limited mobility.

Note: The property is nestled between other Grade II listed buidlings and Wi-Fi can be obstructed at times upstairs in the bedrooms, where Wi-Fi can be limited.

Note: Howman House is a boutique, quirky and quaint property. The property highlights the age of the building and design. The bedrooms are intimate, cozy, having an unusual space. Making this a unique property.

Note: The Stow Horse Fair is held twice a year, on the Thursday closest to 12th May and the Thursday closest to 24th October, this is a traditional fair for people to meet up and trade which dates back to 1476 when its Charter was granted; Stow is very busy for a day or two before and after each fair, and a number of shops, pubs and restaurants are closed.
