“Lovely property in a gorgeous location, Blockley is charming and the cottage was in the hub of it next to the cafe/ restaurant and shop which was great.”

No 4 was perfect for our stay, only very small issue was as we were there 2 weeks not much storage but managed. Little outside space was appreciated in warm weather. Will definitely try and stop again.

“We were unhappy that the church bell bonging on the half hour & denoting the time by the number of bongs ie 11am would be 11 bongs etc.”

This goes on throughout the night. This may not bother some people but I would like to have been forewarned so I could have made an informed choice. Also the windows don't open as they are fixed shut. One window opens slightly

The presence of the church in the village is stated on the description, and there is a location map, which, on zooming into, shows the location of the church. Many of our guests enjoy the sounds of the village church, adding to the experience of staying in the lovely quaint village of Blockley. The Old Coach House is a Grade II Listed Building, retaining many historic character features, including the beautiful windows. In order to preserve these features, there are some limitations. Your stay was during an unseasonal heatwave, and we did provide you with fans for your comfort. We hope that many future guests will be able to benefit from staying in this unique period apartment. “Aesthetically lovely and great location.”

We only used one bedroom so not worried by the damp smell from the second bedroom. They have multiple dehumidifier boxes in the room to tackle this. A couple of things that took the edge off a lovely stay - patio/garden is listed but it’s really just some paving by where the cars are parked (we checked with Sykes this was the right place) - wouldn’t have been an issue for us except specifically listed so we chose over the one we normally stay at which doesn’t have one. It would be nice to have the kitchen basics eg oil salt/pepper etc so don’t have to buy as the other Sykes/character cottages have had. Otherwise lovely location right next to the good village shop and excellent blockley cafe. We come to Blockley regularly it’s a beautiful village and very well located.

Thank you for sharing your feedback. No.4 The Old Coach House is a period property, with many character features, such as exposed stone walls and ancient wooden beams. These do have a particular aroma. We can confirm that the property is thoroughly cleaned and aired between bookings. This summer and especially August has experienced particularly cool and damp weather, which is very unusual for this time of year. It is during a time when the central heating would not generally be running. This could contribute to the smell mentioned. Following your query on the little raised patio area at the front of the property, the description has been updated for clarification. It is the perfect spot to relax with a coffee and observe the village goings on. Thank you for your suggestion of kitchen basics, which has been passed onto our Housekeeping Team. “Whilst a lot of time & consideration has obviously been taken on the presentation of the property, there is an extremely overpowering smell of damp (although no obvious damp patches in sight) coming from the sitting area which affected the enjoyment of our stay immensely, especially as we were unable to open any of the windows.”

Luckily we don’t have any respiratory issues however we were travelling with our four month old baby & it was not nice knowing she was spending time in such a damp environment. This issue was raised by guests last year (a review on booking.com) but no action seemingly taken. We would not have expected a property of this price range to have such an issue & we were left feeling very disappointed. This was especially as Sykes were unable to assist further because we were unable to provide any photo evidence of the damp.

Thank you for sharing your feedback. It is such a shame that you did not contact us during your stay, so we could have sent maintenance out to investigate whilst you were staying. Maintenance have now visited the property and have advised that there is no damp smell evident. The property does have characterful 18th Century exposed Cotswold stone walls, these do have a particular odour, which could be mistaken for damp. “We had a lovely stay at the cottage and appreciated letting us stay for an extra evening (at cost) due to bad weather.”

Beds, bedlinen, bathrooms and large towels were all excellent quality. However the one thing that let the cottage down was the kitchen, as mentioned in previous reviews there's no cupboard space for food, no freezer compartment for ice (gin and tonic) a broken drawer in the fridge (reported in October) and not the best kitchen equipment there isn't a roasting dish or microwave dishes. The cottage is in a beautiful village with plenty of nice pubs and restaurants. We had a relaxing week. Sort out the kitchen and its a 10 out of 10.

Thank you for your feedback. We have taken on board your feedback, the kitchen is well equipped for a short-term holiday let, with washing machine, dishwasher, coffee machine, fridge and microwave. The kitchen is shown in the pictures and details in the description. We appreciate cupboard space is limited; guests are more than welcome to adjust things in the large cupboard nearest the door. We have instructed house keeping to move items to leave space for food items. Previous guests had broken one of the trays in the fridge, we have ordered many new trays unfortunately none of them have been suitable. We apologise for the inconvenience this may have caused you. We take on board your feedback of an ice box and will consider this when purchasing a new fridge in the future. We are pleased you had an enjoyable stay overall, and we were more than happy to accommodate for the additional evening. We changed the housekeeping schedule to accommodate this. “We had a great stay at the Coach House .”

The house was extremely comfortable, well equipped, very well maintained and in pristine condition. We stayed over Christmas, it was a lovely surprise to find the property with not only decorations but a real Christmas tree !We thought this was a lovely gesture and really appreciated the effort taken . Heating been mentioned - although controlled externally it was on a timer for more than enough time to keep the house warm and cozy. Location is great near the cafe ( thoroughly recommended - turns into a restaurant in the evenings which was superb). Shop next to it is also well stocked and friendly. Two pubs in the village also very nice. Thoroughly recommend

“The lack of basics such as a vegetable peeler (which we bought and left for use) and no roasting tins made us wonder if this was self-catering accommodation more for use of those who actually do not wish to cook.”

We managed a mixture of cooking local produce supporting local producers and eating out but it wasn't easy. The fridge door had no shelf as there was a broken bracket so anything larger than a pint of milk or large juice carton was put outside to keep cool and fortunately the weather was in our favour. This is not really what we expected from this level of cottage that was otherwise very good.

We detected it to be coming from the waste bin at the end of the worktop in kitchen area close to doorway . However the black sack inside the bin was brand new .

“The property is lovely and was an ideal get away space for us.”

It is extremely well located in Blockley and was perfect for our needs. Really well finished and comfortable. The only downside we thought was a lack of storage space, this included in the kitchen and master bedroom. In the kitchen it would be great if at least one of the cupboards was empty to allow for food storage, and a fridge with a freezer compartment would have been ideal (ice for a G&T is essential

“We had a great stay at The Old Coachhouse in a beautiful Cotswolds village we’ve never visited before.”

We used the suggested walking routes and really appreciated the walk guides (our son, at 13, the navigator!) A few issues/ concerns for the property: > the inside handle to the front door was loose, and looked to have been repaired previously (a mismatch of slotted and Philips screws, sorry we didn’t have tools to fix!) > the fire/heat alarms were randomly intermittent, I.e. they went off 2 hours after we’d cooked(!) and in the morning as we opened the front door letting in fresh air. Sensitive to temp change? Anyhow neither detracted from a fantastic stay, we will be back!!

Character features such as exposed Cotswold stone walls and wooden beams beautifully complement the contemporary design, and there is a raised patio to the front of the property, with free on-street parking readily available in the village. No.4 The Old Coach House is situated in the centre of the picturesque village of Blockley, a hidden gem whose lanes are lined with attractive honey-coloured Cotswold stone properties.

The village has two country pubs, a children's playground, historic Norman church and a thriving community owned shop and cafe which sits opposite the property.

Located in a valley, there is a babbling brook which winds its way through the picture-perfect village and given its setting within the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, there are many walks and cycle routes on the doorstep to enjoy. An ancient village once famous for its silk and corn mills, Blockley lies just 3 miles from Moreton-in-Marsh and features a unique collection of honey-coloured buildings with a pretty village green, two excellent pubs, serving hearty food and real ale, as well as a village store and café, serving dinner on a Friday night. Many walks and cycle rides through the beautiful rolling countryside of the Cotswolds can be enjoyed from the centre of the village, with the Macmillan Way, Heart of England Way and the Gloucestershire and Monarch's Way all running close by. Very close by, Moreton-in-Marsh boasts many elegant 18th century buildings and is home to traditional inns, tea rooms, restaurants and individual shops to suit all tastes. It also offers its own train station and lies on the intersection of the Paddington rail line from London. The town hosts the Moreton-In-Marsh Show, one of the UK's largest one-day agricultural shows, as well as the Moreton Beer Festival, an annual French Market, and a large outdoor market every Tuesday.
