My Partner and I have actually stayed here on two occasions, having enjoyed our first visit so much it seemed impossible not to return! The location is fantastic, with picturesque running/walking routes and numerous pubs, gastropubs and restaurants all within a short distance. Whilst the time we visited with a car felt more convenient, we were equally able to enjoy the weekend when we relied upon the train from London and local taxis. The first time we visited was at the beginning of December, and the plethora of independent shops in Broadway (a nearby village) coupled with Daylesford, made for the perfect Christmas shopping offering. The cosiness of the living room with the large sofas and wood burning stove meant the evenings were spent out of the cold, playing board games with a glass of wine in front of the fire. The second time was in the Spring and we enjoyed the long walks, beautiful surroundings and drinks on the patio. Within the property itself, you can tell every detail has been thought of and designed specifically to create the perfect holiday home, from the expansive, open plan kitchen with the large farmhouse kitchen all the way down to the little details of high quality linens and toiletries. It is my favourite holiday home in the UK and one we would certainly love to return to.

The property

Orchard House is a spacious detached cottage situated in the tranquil Cotswold village of Upper Oddington.

It is just moments from both the historic market town of Stow-on-the-Wold and fashionable Daylesford Organic shop & restaurant.

The cottage beautifully combines historic honey coloured stone, flagstone floors and wood beams with stylish contemporary furnishings and decor.

Downstairs, three historic cottages have been combined into one long, light and spacious set of living spaces.

Cooks and entertainers should adore the magnificent and well-equipped kitchen which, with its high ceilings, large cooking range and classic farmhouse dining table, is the heart of this home.

The living room, with two large, comfortable sofas, and log burner is ideal for friends and family to relax together after a ling country walk or meal. Upstairs there are three bedrooms ( one king-size double, one King-size double or twin, and one set twin), as well as two stylish bathrooms ( both with power showers, WC, and washbasins, one also offering a bath).

There is also a downstairs cloakroom. To the rear is a large secluded garden with patio and small stream.

To the front there is ample off-street parking.

The cottage itself is situated off a quiet lane. Upper Oddington is a characterful village situated in a designated area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

It is surrounded by countryside, offering the opportunity for numerous walks.

The village has two pubs, including the award-winning Fox Inn, and an 11th century church ( St Nicholas) with it's medieval last judgement fresco.

The Charming Cotswold villages of Burford, Chipping Campden and Bourton-on-the-Water are all close by.

Stratford, Oxford and Cheltenham are also easy to visit. Orchard House is an award-winning cottage which has been selected for features in the national press on many occasions.

We hope that it is the perfect home whilst you explore this beautiful area of the Cotswolds.

About the location

STOW-ON-THE-WOLD

Bourton-on-the-Water 4 miles; Stratford upon Avon 15 miles.

The highest town in the Cotswolds, Stow-on-the-Wold, originally an Iron Age Fort, epitomises olde worlde England. This ancient market town has played host to many fairs since the 12th century and today holds a biannual Gypsy Horse Fair, craft fairs and monthly Farmers' market. The vast market square boasts an ancient cross at one end and the village stocks at the other, surrounded by an elegant array of Cotswold stone townhouses, antique shops, tea rooms, traditional pubs, award-winning restaurants and its very own cricket museum. Many walks and cycle rides through the beautiful rolling countryside of the Cotswolds can be enjoyed from the centre of Stow, with the Macmillan Way, Heart of England Way, Gloucestershire and Monarch's Way all running close to the town. Bourton-on-the-Water, known as the 'Venice of the Cotswolds' as the River Windrush runs through the centre, lies in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is one of the most popular Cotswold villages. The Saxon market town of Moreton-in-Marsh and the quintessential English village of Broadway are all within easy reach and make a great day out. Cheltenham (20 miles away) is, architecturally, the most complete regency town in England. A spa town with an incredible range of shops, cinemas, theatres, restaurants and pubs, it is famous for its horse-racing festival in March, culminating in the Gold Cup steeplechase. At other times of year, it is host to literature, jazz, classical music, science and food and drink festivals. Oxford, the oldest university city in England and sometimes called 'The City of Dreaming Spires’ has an abundance of prestigious attractions, including the 38 colleges of the university (half of which date back before 1600), the oldest university teaching room, the Bodleian Library, Ashmolean and Pitt Rivers Museums, and Botanic Gardens. Stratford-upon-Avon, Bath, Worcester and the waterfront city of Gloucester are also within easy reach, making Stow-on-the-Wold an ideal base.

Note: There is a small stream at the very bottom of the garden, families with young children should take note.
