Completing the ground floor, you will find a handy utility room with access out to the back garden and a cloakroom complete with basin and WC.

Four welcoming bedrooms can be found on the first floor; the master is a lovely triple aspect room containing a king-size bed and benefitting from an en-suite shower room, the second bedroom has double aspect windows and has a king-size bed, the third has a double bed and the fourth overlooks the garden and has twin beds – you are spoilt for choice! The stylish bathroom completes the property and benefits from a welcoming bath for you to relax in before heading to one of the bedrooms for the night.

Once you’ve rested your head, cook you and your group a delicious breakfast before retreating into the enclosed garden to enjoy it alfresco style where you will be surrounded by a Cotswold stone wall and a mostly lawn area, with seating and a barbecue to use in the warmer months. At the side of the house is a driveway, with parking space for two cars.

You are in a prime location at The Bybrook, with Bourton-on-the-Water regularly voted one of the prettiest villages in England and known as the ‘Venice of the Cotswolds’, home to a wealth of attractions and shops, restaurants and tea rooms, such as Cotswolds Antiques and Tea Room and Coach & Horses pub and you can spend some time by the River Windrush which has lovely bridges. Following our stay in The Bybrook (a 4* property) last week, we wish to reiterate our annoyance at the difficulties we encountered with the TV’s in the property.

Our first night was spent trying to get the larger TV in the Lounge to work. After spending about an hour and a half trying to understand how the TV interacted with the BT Your View box, we gave up. We also looked at the second, smaller TV in the “Snug”. There was no visible arial, attached, and the connection into the DVD Player was disconnected. The remote control had no back on it, or any batteries inside. Because we were in a "black spot", with no telephone reception available to make any ‘phone calls, we sent an e-mail to Manor Cottages. The next morning, their maintenance man James, arrived about 9:30 a.m. and after many attempts of trying to get the TV to work, and changing the BT Your View box, he gave up. He informed us that a new Your View box had already been changed on the previous Saturday (19th) and everything seemed to be working. He then decided to remove the large TV in the lounge, and replace it with the smaller TV from the ’Snug”. He fitted batteries into that remote, and eventually got the TV working. However, we could only access I-Player programmes. We used the TV in the evening. On Tuesday evening, we tried to use the TV and couldn’t get it to work. Another e-mail was sent to Manor Cottages, and James came round on Wednesday morning. We went through the start up process again, and he explained the need to make sure that HMDI was active, by showing us how to do that. We had access to about 5 Streaming Apps, but only used I-Player for the rest of the holiday. It was apparent that there was an issue with the signal, as this message kept appearing on the Monday night, and there had been the earlier problem on the Saturday. So we spent all Sunday night trying to get the TV to work, without success, and couldn’t watch any of our favourite programmes. We managed to watch the TV on the Monday night, but then it failed again on the Tuesday. This problem was obviously already an issue known to yourselves, but we were not informed. Also, we were not informed that we were in a telephone “black spot”, which made communication impossible. We feel that all the above entitles us to a partial refund, reflecting the amount of time we wasted on the problem. Also, we found that neither of the ceiling extractor fans, in the En-Suite and Bathroom were working. We have holidayed through Sykes Cottages, twice a year for many years, and not experienced this kind of problem before.

As you are aware the maintenance of the property needs attention, it appears that the problems we encountered were the same as May 23 by Margaret.

The cooking pots and utensils need to be up graded and some were so bad we didn't use them. The garden had not been maintained and we feel that the owners really need to up date the information book eg there was very little information on how to dispose of rubbish all the pamphlets were way out of date. In the event of an emergency the the torch,s battery was no good, we had to search for the torch. The TV and Wi Fi box really does need replacing, we had to call out the maintenance several times, we only had TV for two days. However the maintenance team gets 10 out of 10, speed of attending to call outs. James was very helpful. We did not go looking for defects but am sure that there are a few more.

We had a lovely stay at this place, we were able to gain access early which was a blessing.

The house was clean and welcoming with a little hamper of goodies. The management staff were also amazingly helpful when we run into a situation. The only issue we had was the garden furniture hadn’t been cleaned all winter so we had to clean it before we could use it. Also there was no recycling bins or bags. Overall a good find with a 9.5 out of 10
