Description

Stanley Cottage is a lovely Grade ll listed Cotswold stone cottage, sitting idyllically in the heart of the picturesque market town of Chipping Campden. The cottage has been lovingly refurbished by its owners, in a stunning, contemporary style, and is perfect for families or couples seeking a relaxing break in the Cotswolds.

Step up to the welcoming abode by taking the three stone steps that sit outside the front door, that is surrounded by climbing greenery, and straight into the sitting room, boasting stylish décor, complimented by character features including striking oak beams and a large inglenook fireplace with a warming woodburning stove; the perfect space to sink into the sofas and catch up on your favourite TV show or relax at the window seat with a compelling novel, enjoying the heat from the woodburning stove.

Moving through the property you will come to the thoughtfully laid-out kitchen/diner, where you can utilise the contemporary facilities such as the Rangemaster oven to prepare heart-warming dishes and gather with your loved ones at the large dining table and uncork a bottle of wine to toast to your wonderful vacation ahead.

Take the conversation outside through the French doors, where you will find the lovely enclosed garden with a patio area housing a table set and barbecue – perfect for summer! - and stone steps leading you up to the beautiful shrub filled garden, centred by a stone pathway guiding you through.

When the sun has set, retreat inside and climb upstairs and unwind in the walk-in shower, before choosing from one of the two bedrooms that house the first floor; the master is a lovely spacious room where you will find a sumptuous king-size bed, containing beautiful oak beams, an ornamental fireplace and a roll-top bath where you can indulge amongst the bubbles after a long day of exploring or take in the lovely views of the historic St James’ Church out of the window, the other bedroom overlooks the garden below and is perfect for a child as it contains a single bed.

A steep, winding wooden staircase leads you up to the second floor where you will find a king-size bedroom, with fabulous views of St James’ Church from the window and a shower room.

In the morning, make yourself a steaming cup of coffee using the Nespresso coffee machine, before getting ready for the day and heading out into Chipping Campden; enjoy a delicious breakfast at Campden Coffee Co before heading over to Dover’s Hill to enjoy the stunning views over the Vale of Evesham where you can join the Cotswold Way, which is a 100 mile walking trail, taking you through picturesque villages, breath-taking countryside and famous ancient sites and if you start in Chipping Campden, walk to the next stop which is Broadway and have an enjoyable meal at The Swan.

Train enthusiasts will be delighted with the light railway of Evesham Vale Light Railway, which operates in nearby Evesham Country Park and covers a mile through the park, including a lengthy section through the fruit orchards, take a picnic with you and enjoy it at the midway point and catch a later train back.

Immerse yourself in nature at Cotswold Falconry Centre, in Batsford, which houses over 130 birds of 60 different species, where there are flying displays, aviaries and critically endangered birds, an educational and fun day out for all.

For an unforgettable holiday, make Stanley Cottage your base.

A beautiful, well appointed cottage in a great location.

However, we paid a higher price for this cottage in June for a 70th birthday for the pretty garden setting but it was overgrown and the courtyard area needed sweeping and some tidying up. I couldn’t find a broom! We had very very hot weather and we could not open the small window in the box bedroom as it was jammed shut. The reviews commented on complimentary milk but orange juice was provided instead - a small carton of milk would have been lovely for tea on arrival after our long journey. Skye Cottages helpline was hopeless because it was AI so ignored all of my questions prior to, and during our visit, e.g. would milk be provided? I spent 20 minutes waiting on the phone for assistance and when I did get through to support in Croatia it was practically useless so will not be recommending Skye Cottages.

Stanley Cottage is the best cottage we have stayed at in Chipping Campden, and we have holidayed in Chipping Campden in excess of 10 times.

The cottage has everything you will need to enjoy the wonderful Cotswolds. It is conveniently located close to many delightful restaurants and cafes. The cottage was spotlessly clean and very comfortable, everything exceeded our expectations the welcome package was greatly appreciative, so much so we have already booked for next year. Our thanks goes to the owners of the cottage for providing us the opportunity to stay in our dream cottage in the delightful town of Chipping Campden

Great location for exploring North/mid Cotswolds, not far at all from some of the 'must see' places and villages.

Overall we had a comfortable stay and I wouldn't be put off booking here again for the right price, but there were a few niggly issues which I will mention now: Rubbish outside of property on arrival (not fresh, it had clearly been there a while, easily could have been picked up and removed by whomever cleans the property). Door on main bedroom really drags along the floor, no blind or covering for bathroom window, you're completely exposed to the garden and neighbours garden, not ideal, more so during summer months if other guests are enjoying their morning cuppa outside. Lounge sofas quite uncomfortable as no support from the back cushion, it just slouches down. We felt that the fire logs would be appropriate to be provided during April months still as we had a quite a few chilly days whilst staying and the lounge didn't warm up as well as the rest of the house due to the front door being very old and radiator under the window seat, we would have appreciated the extra warmth. The paintwork is quite worn in places and would benefit from a refresh! We found the beds comfortable and all slept well. Generally found that the accommodation provided most bits we needed, we did some baking whilst there but didn't have scales or measuring spoons so these could be added to the kitchen to cover all bases. No issues with parking for us and Chipping Camden is a lovely quiet village but with a few shops, restaurants and cafes it makes for a good base.

Good to know

House Rules

  • Smoking

    Not permitted

  • Property notes

Note: This is an old property, which is laid out over three floors, with steep polished, winding stairs to the second floor, and some low ceilings, doorways and beams, which could therefore pose difficulty to guests with limited mobility.

Note: Due to the steps and split levels in the garden, children should be supervised outside at all times. Please also note the garden has a water feature, so again guests need to supervise children around this area too.

Please note an initial supply of logs & kindling is provided for the property between October until end of March; additional log supplies can be purchased locally.

Please note: The annual Scuttlebrook Wake takes place along the High Street in Chipping Campden on the first Saturday after the late May bank holiday, with the Cotswold Olimpicks held on the Friday evening beforehand. During this time, the town will be busier than usual and there may be increased noise levels.
