“We had a lovely 4 night stay at White Hart House 7th - 11th March.”

We were a party of 10 adults from a Walking Group who wanted to walk and explore the Cotswolds. The house was perfect for our needs. We had 4 men and 6 ladies so rooms being able to be made into twins was ideal. There is a great bathroom to room ratio so all 4 men slept on the 2nd floor with their bathroom, and all ladies on first floor with bathrooms. The lounge areas were very comfortable, and having 2 of them meant one was used for TV and games, and anyone wanting quiet time could use the other. Kitchen facilities were very good and lovely to all be able to sit round the kitchen table for breakfast and snacks. We didn’t cook dinners as we ate out after our walks, but for breakfasts and snacks etc the kitchen was clean and well equipped. We didn’t use the garden. Showers were lovely and powerful, house was warm and cosy. For a group of walkers not even knowing each other well, the house was great and exactly what we were looking for. The only issue was parking, the day of our arrival there was no parking anywhere in the road outside and even outside the entrance to the house there was a car parked blocking it completely. We had to partially block the road just to unload our 3 cars, then drive and leave the cars overnight in the car park ( free car park ) which was only 3-4 mins walk away. Out of the 4 nights stay we managed to 1 car outside the house 3 nights and the rest of the time that car plus the other 2 had to stay in the car park which I am not a fan of really. The car parking would not stop me booking this house again as it was very comfortable and perfect for what we wanted and a perfect location. The Royal Oak pub opposite the cottage serves great food and has to be one of the most organised and best pubs for a group of people I have come across. We made a reservation for our first night and emailed them the names of the people with menu choice. The food was great and at the end of the evening everyone had individual bills and they had even matched everyone’s drinks up to their bill. So quick and easy and accommodating and literally a 1 min walk from the House. Thank you for allowing us to use your house, we would definitely like to come back for more walking.

“Even though we were only there a few days, White Hart House couldn’t have been better!”

The house was a perfect size for all 3 families, the downstairs living room made a great playroom for all the kids and the housekeeper had very thoughtfully set each twin room up next to a double so we could all be near our kids. It was lovely to be able to use the fire during the big storm too which kept us cosy warm. The village provided ample things to do and see so we didn’t have to get back in the car! Would definitely come back for longer.

“We had a great stay in the property.”

Just a couple of points that need looking at/ fixing: 1. The shower in the first floor en-suite didn’t work 2. There was no grit outside for the decking area. It was very slippery (not icey, just very slippery) 3. There is an airlock in the drain in the top floor bathroom. When draining the bath, it’s very noisy (you can hear the issue every 10seconds approx) and took quite a while to completely empty. 4. In the same way that we were asked about bed configuration pre arrival, it would have been great to have also had been asked if we need stair gates in place. We would have said yes to this, especially in the doorway to the cellar. Overall our stay was fantastic - the house is truely great and we would look to stay again in the future. (Just would like to double check all bathrooms work as this was a very important factor for us). The communication from Sykes cottages via email and phone have been great and Liz, the house keeper was also super and very helpful. Overall, amazing! Thank you.

Whilst there is no onsite parking, there are plenty of roadside spaces close to the house. The bathrooms and bedrooms are spacious and the property is kitted out to a very high standard. Communication with the housekeeper prior to our visit and during it couldn’t be faulted.

“This is an excellent house for a large group with plenty of room to spread out.”

The bedrooms are all of a good size with comfortable beds with a good ratio of bathrooms to bedrooms. The kitchen is well equipped with sociable seating. The garden is a sun trap and bigger than expected for its location, which was 1 minute from all the shops and even closer for 2 pubs! There are plenty of shops and restaurants in walking distance, and equally if you head east from the door there are lovely country walks with pubs for breaks if needed. The house was clean, tidy, well decorated and managed to perfectly blend the original character with modern living. It felt like a home and not a rented house, which says a lot - highly recommended.

Few points for improvement. Bathroom on first floor (near the stairs to second floor) has a door that cannot be opened from inside the bathroom. On occasions people were locked in when forgotten but as there were a number of us around meant they were quickly helped out. In the same bathroom the tap on the wash basin was loose and the tap moved. It also worked in the anti clock wise direction unlike most taps. Not big problems but they can be resolved easily. On a more minor note only two tea towels. Insufficient for a long weekend with 11 people. Also we had to go out to buy toilet rolls. A supply would have been good as well as a few more dishwasher tablets. Only 4 I believe, again not much when 11 people are eating. Nothing major but can be quickly resolved for future visitors.

“Overall the location was great.”

The ability to split beds was great so 10 people can sleep in individual beds. Lots of space downstairs with well-equipped kitchen. Didn’t use outside space but that would be great in the summer too. There were a few housekeeping niggles: The tall white radiator in the room next to the master bedroom was not working, The kettle when full poured at right angles. One of our party had a nasty burn as a result in her leg - we used the burn dressing in the first aid kit - we replaced it The dishwasher did not clean very well No matches to light fire

“We did loved the house and the garden.”

it was great to have the large amount of space for the kids and the adults to enjoy the property. A couple of negatives, we were a bit disappointed with the lack of BBQ and coffee machine in the coffee as it is a high end price for rental - especially as we were 3 families. The shower on the middle floor had issues with hot water, it was either scalding or freezing cold. To end on a positive however, the location was amazing and the kitchen equipment was great.

Very comfortable. It worked brilliantly with young children, particularly with the basement room after bedtime. Despite being in the midtown busy Burford, it was quiet and peaceful. The local amenities were excellent. We loved the golf club and the garden centre and took the direct bus into Oxford.

BURFORD

Swinbrook 3.3 miles; Little Barrington 3.4 miles; Minster Lovell 6.1 miles.

Burford is possibly one of, if not THE most famous of the Cotswolds' locations. With its medieval bridge, old stone houses and attractive Tudor and Georgian frontages, Burford is justifiably one of the most picturesque towns in England. Often referred to as the 'Gateway to the Cotswolds', the town was originally a fortified Anglo-Saxon ford which later grew to be an important regional crossroads and wealthy wool town. Located mid way between Oxford and Cheltenham (25 mins each away) it is a little haven of history and beauty that many come to fall in love with when they visit.

The 16th century Tolsey building, once the meeting place for medieval merchants, now houses The Tolsey Museum, a delightful local museum illustrating the town's social and industrial past. The church is stunning, a real gem architecturally with many interesting memorials charting some of Burford's great families. There is also the signature, on the baptisimal font, of Antony Sedley, one of the Levellers besieged in the church in 1649 - three of the ringleaders were executed by Oliver Cromwell's men in the churchyard. History awaits!

With little changing over the centuries, Burford is now very popular with visitors, both for its beauty and history but also for its shopping and antiques, and for the wide variety of places to eat, with restaurants, pubs and teashops. It is an ideal base for visiting The Cotswolds area as it is within easy driving distance of popular attractions such as Blenheim Palace, Sudley Castle, Warwick Castle and several National Trust Houses and Gardens. Bourton on the Water, Bibury, Cirencester and Stow on the Wold are all with 25 minutes from the property.
