“I had a really pleasent and comfy stay in this suprisngly quiet house, so much so , that i would happily return.”

Other feedback is as others have already stated: 1. I noticed in both Manor Cottage properties i've stayed in the interior is cleaner than the exterior. They don't seem to have an appropriate outside space maintenance routine & it shows. Not that the spaces aren't usable or appreciated, they are. But in general holiday lets do fall down on exteiror maintenance and here is the same. They need to keep pace with the seasons to stay on top. Tumbled roof moss, bird feathers, spider webs and weeding, greening stone work are classic signs. 2. The house is very old and full of character so a bit of wonky is not an issue. I did notice reported failed curtain rings and hard to flush toilets in reviews remain unaddressed which suggests feedback is not routinely acted upon as stated. Other issues: 1. Taking a dust pan and brush to a set of stairs revealled they obviously hadn't been properly cleaned for a while. We also found some long black hairs in our bathroom. While some / most of the property does appear super clean it's a shame to know corners might get cut. I was left wondering if detergents are used to clean bathrooms and what other bits might be neglected. It's a big property and i can imagine a daunting propsect to clean but hygiene risks only increase in such places. 2. This might be one for the local vicar rarher than an electrician but the first couple of nights were chilly and we could not get any radiator in any bedroom or the sitting room to activate following house instructions. Then all of a sudden one might suddenly heat up, but is was terribly random. None of it made any sense at all. Also the radiator in the tv snug made an alarming rattling noise after being on for several hours. When finally one evening the dish-washer came on without ever being used or even switiched on we decided the whole issue might have something to do with a resident ghost. The house electrics didn't seem dodgy and the heating was all about illogical water flow, but this house is in permanent shade so i'd want an assurance all is working if i were to stay during the winter.

The property

Tucked down a little private path in Burford, Oxfordshire, this utter gem of a mid-terraced dwelling, Butler’s Cottage, is as good as it gets!

Butler's Cottage, a Grade II listed building with a long history dating back hundreds of years and is the absolute epitome of a classic Burford cottage - historic, hidden, quirky and spacious.

Inside is a thoughtfully and exquisitely furnished home, where you can settle down in the tastefully furnished sitting area of the living/dining room and watch your favourite Sky show on the TV; be sure to light the woodburning stove for some extra warmth.

The dining area is ideal for any social gathering, with a table seating all the family, so you can grab a seat and catch up with your group about your countryside ramblings.

After spending some time with the family, you can unwind in the quieter space of the snug with one of the books available.

The kitchen has been fitted with everything you need to whip up delectable meals, including a handy dishwasher!

The first-floor hosts three top-notch bedrooms, with one being a super-king-size, one a king-size and the other a twin room; the super-king-size and twin feature zip/link beds to coincide with your sleeping plans, whilst two of the bedrooms also enjoy Jack-and-Jill access to a bathroom - reminding you that you're never far from a little bit of Burford's eccentricity!

Additionally, you can find a fabulous shower room on this floor, whilst the downstairs hosts a cloakroom, ideal for avoiding those morning queues.

The private courtyard is where you can go to catch some sun whilst you sip a morning coffee and take in your quaint surroundings of the town.

The abode is conveniently located near the Burford High Street, which offers a variety of local pubs, restaurants, and stores to visit; the town also has an established golf club where putting enthusiasts may practise their skills.

Visit Witney, stopping along the route at the fascinating Crocodiles of the World attraction before exploring Cogges Manor Farm's living museum and meandering through the lovely Duckington Lake & Country Park.

Further afield, the spectacular city of Oxford awaits, with plenty of historic attractions available for you to visit, such as the Oxford University Museum of Natural History and the Oxford Castle & Prison, as well as the stunning sights of the city's many meadows and green spaces, including the renowned Port Meadow; there is still so much more to see of the city, so make sure to set aside some time to visit!

Further afield, consider taking a Cotswolds Mystery Tour, where you can learn about the area's hidden villages while being guided by knowledgeable tour guides.

An exceptional holiday property, Butler’s Cottage is the perfect retreat for families or couples who love the Cotswolds.

About the location

BURFORD

Swinbrook 2.4 miles; Little Barrington 3.5 miles; Minster Lovell 5.6 miles.

Burford is possibly one of, if not the most famous of the Cotswolds' locations. With its medieval bridge, old stone houses and attractive Tudor and Georgian frontages, it is justifiably one of the most picturesque towns in England. Often referred to as the 'Gateway to the Cotswolds', the town was originally a fortified Anglo-Saxon ford which later grew to be an important regional crossroads and wealthy wool town. Located midway between Oxford and Cheltenham, it is a little haven of history and beauty that many come to fall in love with when they visit. The 16th century Tolsey building, once the meeting place for medieval merchants, now houses The Tolsey Museum, a delightful local museum illustrating the town's social and industrial past. The church is stunning, a real gem architecturally with many interesting memorials charting some of Burford's great families. There is also the signature, on the baptisimal font, of Antony Sedley, one of the Levellers besieged in the church in 1649 - three of the ringleaders were executed by Oliver Cromwell's men in the churchyard. History awaits! With little change over the centuries, Burford is now very popular with visitors, both for its beauty and history but also for its shopping and antiques, and for the wide variety of places to eat, with restaurants, pubs and tea shops. It is an ideal base for visiting The Cotswolds area as it is within easy driving distance of popular attractions such as Blenheim Palace, Sudeley Castle, Warwick Castle and several National Trust Houses and Gardens. Bourton on the Water, Bibury, Cirencester and Stow on the Wold are all within ten miles.
