Where is Arlington Row?<\/h2>\n

Arlington Row<\/strong>\u00a0is accessible from\u00a0Awkward Hill\u00a0<\/strong>in the quiet village of\u00a0Bibury.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Bibury<\/strong>\u00a0is on the eastern edge of the central\u00a0Cotswolds.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Although this beautiful scenery is tucked away, there are multiple ways of getting to\u00a0Arlington Row.<\/strong>\u00a0If you are driving, the\u00a0M4\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0M5<\/strong>\u00a0will take you most of the way. While a short bus journey with one change is available from\u00a0Cheltenham.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Access to\u00a0Arlington Row\u00a0<\/strong>by car is limited. So, we recommend parking up in\u00a0Bibury\u00a0<\/strong>and walking across the river.<\/p>\n

History<\/h2>\n

Early History<\/h3>\n

Built in 1380,\u00a0Arlington Row\u00a0<\/strong>started life as a wool store. In the 17th-century, the row of cottages was converted into weaver\u2019s cottages.<\/p>\n

Across from the cottages is a patch of boggy meadow (Rack Isle)<\/strong>. After the wool had been washed, it was left to dry on the\u00a0Rack Isle.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Once the wool was dry, it was then sent to\u00a0Arlington Mill<\/strong>\u00a0to be processed.<\/p>\n

Modern History<\/h3>\n

In 1929, preservation was maintained by the\u00a0Royal College of Arts.<\/strong>\u00a0And the cottages were again restored by the\u00a0National Trust\u00a0<\/strong>in 1975.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0National Trust<\/strong>\u00a0now owns all the properties along\u00a0Arlington Row.\u00a0<\/strong>All but one of these are leased out to a group of private tenants.<\/p>\n

In 2015, a yellow car (pictured above) was parked along Arlington Row.<\/strong> This annoyed many tourists who thought it was spoiling their photographs. It eventually led to the car being vandalised.<\/p>\n

It created a number of news stories and led to the\u00a0Bibury\u00a0<\/strong>resident changing the colour of his car.<\/p>\n

Note to visitors: While\u00a0Arlington Row<\/strong>\u00a0is a beautiful location to enjoy with the family, it is also private accommodation. Please take this into consideration when visiting.<\/p>\n
