\"Blenheim<\/p>\n

Located in\u00a0Woodstock, Oxfordshire, Blenheim Palace\u00a0<\/strong>is home to the\u00a0Duke of Marlborough.\u00a0<\/strong>The World Heritage site was built between 1705 and 1722 and is the only non-royal country house that is a Palace.<\/p>\n

History of Blenheim Palace<\/h2>\n

Dating back to the 18th-century,\u00a0John Churchill\u00a0<\/strong>was given the land after his military success throughout the Battle of Blenheim. Then with financial help from\u00a0Queen Anne,\u00a0<\/strong>the project to build\u00a0Blenheim Palace\u00a0<\/strong>began.<\/p>\n

Over the following years, the project was thrown into turmoil, with the Palace costing much more than the original plans. The budget of \u00a360,000 (\u00a313,600,00 today) ended up rising to over \u00a3220,000 (\u00a350,000,000 today). The Duke was exiled overseas and only returned once\u00a0Queen Anne\u00a0<\/strong>had passed away.<\/p>\n

As years passed and the Palace passed from Duke to Duke, the families fortunes began to dwindle. However, when the\u00a09th<\/strong>\u00a0Duke of Marlborough\u00a0<\/strong>(Charles) took over, he took matters into his own hands.<\/p>\n

In 1896\u00a0Charles<\/strong>\u00a0married\u00a0Consuelo Vanderbilt.\u00a0<\/strong>The marriage was one of money and allowed the restoration of\u00a0Blenheim Palace<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Nowadays, the Palace is still home to the Churchill family (now Spencer-Churchill). However, the Palace and its grounds are open to the public with an entrance fee.<\/p>\n

Throughout history,\u00a0Blenheim Palace<\/strong>\u00a0has had some notable residents. In fact, if the Churchill name sounds familiar,\u00a0Blenheim Palace<\/strong>\u00a0was the birthplace and home of\u00a0Sir Winston Churchill.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n
