“There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea,”...
There are burgers, and then there are BURGERS – the real thing, the kind that are juicy, packed with trimmings and ready to be savoured. And if you have a gourmet burger complete with a great view of the Cotswolds, well, things can’t get much better than that, can they?
The good news is we’ve rounded up some of the burger hotspots in the Cotswolds, so your homework has already been done for you. All you have to do is savour the possibilities, and find the nearest location to your chosen holiday cottage to visit while you’re there.
If we tell you the burgers here have won awards, that should give you an idea of how mouth-watering an order placed here will be. The most recent addition to their menu is a burger made from 28-day aged beef, complete with all the trimmings and a slice of roasted topside covered in gravy. You also get an extra portion of gravy for dipping. Now that sounds awesome, indeed. Visit Baby Sheldon's in Shipston-on-Stour.
Another award-winner here, with the restaurant serving a wide variety of treats. However, the burgers are to be found at the bar, where butterflied chicken breast burgers sit happily alongside other options, including chargrilled cheeseburgers and even a falafel burger. Do yourself a favour, go visit The Bell in Alderminster and order one of their mouthwatering burgers as a matter of some urgency.
You’ll find many a pub called The White Hart, but none are arguably as fine as this one in Stow. Here you get to try such delights as a grilled lamb burger, a smoked haddock burger (yes, really) and even a wild boar burger. Each one is served with appropriate garnishes, such as garlic and lime mayo, lemon and caper mayo or wholegrain mustard and maple syrup. You can also add other toppings if you really want to go all out with a great burger experience.
Another delight to be unearthed in the Cotswolds is The Angel at Burford which offers up an amazing burger on their mouthwatering menu.
There is arguably only one thing better than choosing one of these restaurants or pubs in which to enjoy a great burger. That’s to try them all in turn, and if you’re in the Cotswolds for a few days, we’d thoroughly recommend you do just that.
