You now have a fabulous opportunity to WIN A HOLIDAY IN ONE OF OUR LOVELY COTTAGES. The winner will...
The great thing about visiting the Cotswolds and staying in a Cotswolds country cottage is that you aren’t too far away from such delights as Stratford upon Avon either. You might be surprised to know that if you are staying in Chipping Campden for example, you are only just over twenty minutes away from Stratford upon Avon and everything it has to offer you.
One of the most notable things about Stratford upon Avon is of course that it is Shakespeare Country. You can visit all the properties associated with the playwright here, as well as seeing some of his most famous plays.
There is no better place to do this than at the RSC – the Royal Shakespeare Company. They don’t just show Shakespearean productions here but if you want to sample a slice of real Shakespeare there is no better place to go.
Hamlet is coming to an end at the RSC in September, but there is plenty more to see in the near future. This is good news if you are staying in Stratford upon Avon accommodation for a long UK weekend or a holiday later in the year. The Comedy of Errors, King Lear, Romeo and Juliet and Antony and Cleopatra are all coming to the RSC in the near future.
Another great thing about visiting the RSC in Stratford upon Avon is that you will very often get the chance to see some famous names taking on Shakespeare. David Tennant and Patrick Stewart have appeared in Hamlet in the past, while many other famous names have also taken to the stage here.
The RSC is very easy to find as well. Situated on Southern Lane it is on the opposite side of the road to the river. It is also not that far from Nash’s House – one of the Shakespeare properties – and Anne Hathaway’s Cottage isn’t too far beyond that either.
In short if you are visiting Stratford upon Avon at any time of the year you should definitely make a beeline for the theatre to see whether there are any appealing productions on that you could go and see. Lots of people go to Stratford upon Avon during the summer months but as you can see there are plenty of productions showing all year round.
Shakespeare is still misunderstood by some audiences. His work is occasionally thought of as being inaccessible to modern audiences. But this is not the case when you see the works performed at such venues as the RSC in Stratford upon Avon. Here you can see famous names making their mark and bringing Shakespeare to a modern audience in a very modern way. It makes you wonder what Shakespeare himself would have thought of it.
Of course there are plenty of other things you can do while you are in Stratford upon Avon. Why not build a weekend around a performance at the RSC? You won’t run short of things to do on a UK weekend break here.
