It’s tempting to think that once the summer holidays are over, the best part of the year is over. But even though the nights will start drawing in and the weather will turn cooler, there is still plenty to do and enjoy during September in the Cotswolds.
One of the highlights of the month occurs right at the very beginning. This is the Moreton in Marsh show, which takes place on Saturday 3rd September. It’s a traditional show with lots to see and do, and it’s an absolute must see for everyone. Locals and visitors alike will descend on the show and have plenty to do for the whole day.
The gates open as early as 7.30am and they don’t close until six in the evening, so you can see this really is a huge day out. You’ll get to see a livestock parade during the afternoon – this is a country show after all! There are also two large arenas that provide countless hours of entertainment throughout the day. The first of these is the Grand Arena, in which you’ll see jousting and horse displays and parades among other things. The second one is called the Attractions Arena, which is packed with lots of different attractions, hence the name. You can see everything from bird displays right through to tractor displays and even dog racing here.
If you’re into self sufficiency you’ll definitely want to go to this part of the show. This is the ideal chance to find out more about growing your own and even keeping chickens, should you be tempted to do so. With experts on hand to give advice and areas set up to provide insights into how to grow vegetables in different spaces, you’ll learn plenty from this part of the show.
It’s well worth making the journey to Moreton in Marsh to see this show. But since it has such an early start you might benefit from staying in Cotswolds accommodation nearby overnight, or perhaps even for a long weekend. What better reason to indulge in a few days off than by staying in a Cotswolds country cottage so you can see the Moreton in Marsh show?
The show will be well signposted ahead of the event, so you should find it quite easily. The post code given for the event is GL56 9AJ, so if you have a sat nav you can find it via that. The event will be held just off the A429, just a short distance to the north of the town itself. If you have time during your stay it is well worth browsing round Moreton in Marsh as well, because it is a charming place.
So you can see that if you have a gap in your calendar for Saturday 3rd September, you should fill it by going to this fantastic show. It sounds like a cliché to say that there is something here for the entire family to enjoy, but in this case it is true.
