Good old Mother Nature has been at it again! As well as providing us with the wettest start to the year for centuries – it’s also been incredibly mild, which means once again it’s been a challenge to predict when things like our gorgeous snowdrops will be at their blooming best!

They’ve been wowing visitors for the past couple of weeks thanks to the milder temperatures but should still be looking good until the end of February – fingers crossed!

March is a wonderful month for visitors to the arboretum – with hints of warmer days to come on those rare days of sunshine and a whole host of gorgeous spring flowering bulbs doing their thing: aconites, hellebores and then swathes of beautiful golden daffodils – a treat to the eye after such a long, cold – and wet winter!

Spring is a lovely time of year in the Garden Shop and Plant Centre too! There’s a definite air of excitement as new ranges of flower and vegetable seeds, summer flowering bulbs and seed potatoes start to arrive – offering the promise of a bumper gardening year to come. You can also pick up 9cm pots of herbaceous perennials in the plant centre. These little beauties will quickly catch up with their larger and more expensive cousins which will be in stock a little later in the spring and are fantastic value for money.

We have some lovely events planned for Easter including advice about attracting wildlife to your garden in our special Living Gardens Days over the Easter Weekend and our very popular Big Batsford Chicken Hunt for the kids! Or you might prefer just to enjoy some spring sunshine from the deck of the Garden Terrace Café while treating yourself to a cheeky cake, lunch or afternoon tea!

Whatever your plans for the holidays, here’s hoping for some drier and warmer weather so we can all get out and enjoy our beautiful countryside.

Batsford is open every day of the year and is just a mile from the historic marketing town of Moreton-in-Marsh in the heart of the north Cotswolds.
