We all like to indulge from time to time and food is a wonderful way of bringing family and friends and loved ones together, especially at holiday time.
Writing a blog about food in the Cotswolds however is a bit like trying to stuff a whole cake into a sandwich bag! There are just so many brilliant places to mention. Delightful tea shops and cafes abound, many award winning chefs are now well-established in the Cotswolds and a host of food festivals bring the foodies together throughout the year.
From a self-catering point of view, the region is spoilt for choice, with top class producers of a whole range of delicious foods dotted around in our historic towns and villages. Offering an enormous selection of traditional ingredients and fresh produce, these specialists make the Cotswolds the place to go for a foodie break. Here are just a handful of ideas to get you thinking (and your mouth watering)….
Donnington Trout Farm in Upper Swell near Stow-on-the-Wold breeds trout in their crystal-clear Cotswold spring waters, using feeds from sustainable non-GM sources. Fresh trout of all sizes are prepared to order plus they offer a range of delicious traditionally smoked products. Visit to see and even feed the trout or buy from the on-site farm shop.
LoveMyCow produces free range, grass fed, Hereford X beef on the family farm just outside Bourton-on-the-Water. As well as all mainstay joints they make award-winning burgers and have recently added meatballs to the menu too. Tucked away in the traditional market streets of Stow-on-the-Wold you will find Maby’s Delicatessen.
