We are so lucky to have a vast array of wonderful shops in the Cotswolds, many independently run and...
Christmas is a particularly special time in the Cotswolds. Imagine snow dusted villages, with welcoming inns, complete with roaring log fires and you will understand why the Cotswolds enjoys visitors from all over the world during the festive period. The Christmas markets add an extra special layer of sparkle and good cheer to the reputation of the Cotswolds, and with the festivities including authentic German markets; independent retailers and the switching on of Christmas lights, there is much to delight the shopper. Here’s what is going on this year:
This ‘capital’ of the Cotswolds is already famous for the farmers’ market it holds twice a month, but the Christmas market is a sight to behold. This year there will be no German-style chalet stalls, but to make up for this there is a return to the Advent Festival and the Advent Market will run in the afternoons. There will also be the eclectic mix of independent retailers and diverse stalls you’d expect, selling crafts and a mixture of gifts and presents.
The wonderfully historic Gloucester Quays sets the scene for a Victorian market, full of character and authenticity. This is one huge event that features over 150 stalls selling everything from handmade gifts, including wooden toys, artisan jewellery, homeware, fine clothes & accessories, and of course, home cooked food and drink. There will be live music to create the atmosphere and characters from Dickens will wander amongst shoppers. All this and it is free.
Anyone who is stuck for a Christmas gift for a family member or friend should head down to Stroud, where they are holding a special 4-day Christmas market event in the Cornhill Market Square. On Friday 20th there is an crafts and gifts market, followed by the hugely popular Stroud farmers’ market Christmas market on Saturday 21st and then two more craft and gift fairs on the Sunday 22nd and Monday 23rd.
For the next two weeks the streets of Bath become a Christmas shopping haven, as over 150 stalls grace the pavements, each one offering everything from handmade crafts, decorations and quirky gifts, to delicious home cooked food and drinks. All set amongst the historic architecture of beautiful Bath.

Located in the heart of Oxford on the historic Broad Street, and surrounded by the historical Oxford University buildings, the ancient spires of churches and the many bicycles of students, the Oxford Christmas market is now firmly established into the hearts of the locals. This is a German-styled market with wooden chalets offering a truly wonderful selection of unique and quirky gifts for all ages. There is also a great range of hot food and drinks available.
