Christmas at Batsford Arboretum

winter at batsford arboretum

So the madness of autumn has well and truly waned and we’re thrilled so many people ventured out – despite the challenging weather – to witness another fabulous natural fireworks display of colour at Batsford Arboretum.

This annual assault on the senses never ceases to amaze both visitors and staff – who have the luxury of being able to spend their lunch breaks wandering through the blazing colours, soaking up both the sights and the smells of autumn.

Leaves For Learning Fundraising Appeal

We’ve had so much support from our visitors for our Leaves For Learning Fundraising Appeal to build a permanent classroom at Batsford. We need to raise £40,000 for the project and while there’s still a way to go, we’re incredibly grateful to local businesses who’re supporting us by offering amazing prizes in our Christmas raffle draw. First prize is a children’s Shepherds Hut; second prize a spa day for two at the brand new Dormy House Hotel and Spa; third prize is a night’s B and B at the Noel Arms Hotel, with a fourth prize of a pamper day for two at the Cotswold House Hotel and Spa. Thank you to them all for their incredible generosity – and if you haven’t got your ticket yet – you better get a move on! The raffle is being drawn on our last Festive Friday – the 20th December at 6pm.

On the subject of Christmas – it’s a wonderful time of year at Batsford – magical in the arboretum where the trees take on a sparkling quality after a frost, making it a winter wonderland of a place to enjoy a walk. This year we have another exciting first for Batsford too. Already famed for gorgeous Christmas trees and exquisite handmade wreaths, this year younger visitors will be enchanted by our illuminated Christmas trail in the arboretum. Between 3 and 5pm each day they can follow the trail of illuminated Christmas characters in the Arboretum! Even better – on the four Friday’s running up to Christmas (November 29th, December 6th, 13th and 20th) Santa will be here too from 4 til 7pm!

Batsford is a wonderful place to find unusual Christmas gifts, both in the Arboretum Gift Shop and the Applestore – home to gorgeous shabby chic vintage furniture and present ideas. In the Garden Shop there’s plenty of choice for the green-fingered and the Garden Terrace Café will be providing festive snacks and drinks – including their famous hot chocolate made with real Belgian chocolate buttons and scrumptious mince pies!

And once the big day is over, you can walk off all the excesses by enjoying a winter stroll through the arboretum on Boxing Day when we’re open between 10am and 3pm. There’s even a free glass of mulled wine – while stocks last!

So whether you’re looking for somewhere for a magical winter walk, or unusual gifts you won’t find on the high street; festive food or fun for all the family, add Batsford to your ‘must-visits’ this Christmas – and all year round.

We’re open every day of the year except Christmas Day from 10am to 5pm. Dogs welcome throughout the Visitor Centre and Arboretum on a short lead. Winner of Cotswold Tourism’s Large Visitor Attraction of the Year 2013.
