It’s been an amazing start to the year thanks to the incredibly mild weather compared with last year and we’ve been enjoying a fabulous display in the arboretum from the spring flowering bulbs, blossom and magnolias.
The Garden Shop and Plant Centre are buzzing with people keen to bring new life to their gardens this summer. We’ve an amazing range of plants as well as all the gardening sundries needed to keep your garden in tip top condition.
By early May much of the blowsy blossom will be over, replaced instead by the beautiful native wildflowers – from gorgeous wild garlic to bluebells and muscari, camassias and gorgeous orchids – as well as the star of our show – our famous Davidia Tree. Known as the Pocket Handkerchief Tree, this huge specimen is a popular attraction at Batsford, covered as it is with thousands of white bracts that resemble handkerchiefs blowing in the early summer breeze.
May and June are wonderful months at Batsford Arboretum – the chance to stroll beneath the green tree canopy through the flowers or to sit and relax in the early summer sunshine. We also recognise your dog is part of your family which is why we welcome them on a lead in both the arboretum and in the visitor centre including the café.
If you’re just looking for somewhere to enjoy glorious views with an equally glorious home baked lunch or afternoon tea, pop along to the Garden Terrace Café where you can soak up the sunshine and the atmosphere from the wooden deck overlooking the Plant Centre. Or enjoy a spot of retail therapy by visiting the Gift Shop, our very own woodturner Roger or The Applestore – home to an amazing array of shabby chic furniture and vintage finds.
Whatever your reason for visiting, there’s something for everyone at beautiful Batsford Arboretum and Garden Centre.
