A typical 'A La Start Course' will start around 9.15 am running through until 3pm. This course is specially designed for beginners to give a good grounding in the basics and teach the principles around cooking that will give students the confidence to try more dishes at home. Tasks include basic knife skills, bread making and creating a starter, main course and dessert. Course size is kept to a maximum of six people so students get plenty of experience and time to ask questions. The course is fun, hands-on and cooks get to eat the proceeds.

For the more proficient home chef after a challenge we would recommend booking a Japanese, Thai or Patisserie course. Another favourite of Manor Cottages guests is the popular 'A La Carte' course for enthusiastic cooks who want to expand their repertoire, add new skills to cooking ability or kick-start some cookery enthusiasm again. The menus on this course embrace French classics such as soufflés, creme brûlées, tart tatins and baguettes. Alternatively students take on Italian food creating fresh pasta with duck ragu, unctuous orange and almond torta and more. Other options include; preparing fresh fish, jointing chicken, whipping up some buttery, beautiful pastry or perfecting a sauce. Each course date has a menu so look before booking to find one that suits your cooking capabilities best.

Set in a beautiful converted barn with a large, light and airy kitchen, courses are hands-on, sociable and fun. If you're not sure which course is right for you or a friend, just call Alexis and she'll be happy to help. The school has a great reputation and was a finalist in 2013's coveted UK and Ireland Cookery School awards.

All the details are on the school's website www.dancingtrousers.co.uk and a 10% discount on all courses is offered to Manor Cottages customers. Simply state Manor Cottages when booking.

Dancing Trousers can also arrange bespoke cookery courses on site at some of the cottages. This could be anything from an afternoon's baking to a three course meal.
