You will always find plenty of things to see and do if you take a holiday in the Cotswolds during the summer. This is supposed to be the time of the best weather during the year, although of course we can never be sure of this in the UK!
However with that said everyone in Alcester and beyond is gearing up for another memorable Midland History Festival in August this year. If you are staying in one of the superb Cotswolds cottages that are available to book in the surrounding areas, make sure you go along. It is due to take place on the 6th and 7th of August at Ragley Hall in Alcester.
Ragley Hall has always been a delightful choice for a day out. It is situated just to the west of Stratford upon Avon, so if you have some Stratford upon Avon accommodation booked up already, you won’t be too far away from the Hall itself. It is also to the north of Evesham, one of the nice parts of the Cotswolds, and you can reach it quite easily from many other familiar towns and villages as well. It’s not far from Broadway, Chipping Campden and even Worcester further over to the west.
So what will be waiting for you at Ragley Hall if you decide you do want to go along to the Midland History Festival? Well for starters you may feel as if you are going back in time, since there will be plenty of people there re-enacting various periods in history. You can watch battles taking place right in front of your eyes and watch people in camps as they re-enact how life would have been many years ago. It is quite an eye opening event and great fun for all the family.
As you might expect you can get involved yourself as well. Why not have a go at archery for example or watch one of the cooking displays? There is plenty to see and do throughout the weekend so you will never run short of entertainment. It’s not just a county fair – this is a step back into the past that you will really enjoy.
Tickets will cost £6.50 for an adult but you can get a family ticket for £25 if you wish. This covers the entrance for two adults and up to three children, so you can see it is a good money saver.
There is no need to take food or drink along with you either. There will be lots of food and drink stalls there over the weekend, to serve you lots of tasty treats. You can even try some real ale at the bar that will be there as well. And if you want to take some food home with you, stop by the farmer’s market that will also be a part of the weekend.
As you can see it is well worth going along for a whole day to really make the most of it.
