Some Cotswold’s towns are renowned for antique shops, others for delis, whilst many excel in restaurants and tearooms. Broadway however has it all; from quirky art galleries to designer cook shops and much more. Here’s what we found wandering up the High Street:
Trinity House is an art gallery with an impressive pedigree; located on the High Street, it has galleries in London and New York and typically houses collections from Impressionists greats such as Claude Monet.
The Old Print Gallery is situated down Church Close and sells every kind of print imaginable, from traditional to modern. Think bright and beautiful sea scenes to kitsch shoes and farm animals.
Love Art Broadway offers a selection of canvas paintings and prints, suitable for every room in the house. You can find them in The Huntings, just off Church Close, where you can spend hours choosing your favourite modern print.
On the High Street is Armstrong’s, which is one of those stores where you can feel the heritage as soon as you step through the doors, and for good reason; they were founded over 200 years ago. Expect classy, good quality ladies and men’s wear that will last.
Spirit of the Andes says that they make modern knitwear from an ancient source. They use alpaca and pima cotton to create the softest and most luxurious garments on the planet. Find them on The Green.
Future brides should check out The Bridal Room Broadway, just off the High Street, as it has been awarded The Winner of the Best Bridal Retailer in the West Midlands 2014, in a competition where the brides actually voted. Expect great service and happy customers.
Hamilton’s Chocolates are well known in the Cotswolds, with stores in Stratford-Upon Avon and Burford. These handmade chocolates are made in small batches to ensure freshness and are created by the owners. Find them in Cotswolds Court.
Allofmyheart is located in Cotswold’s House, off The Green, and is one of those gift shops that as soon as you step inside, you feel as if you are entering a treasure trove, with arrays of glittering gems, handmade jewelry, hanging hearts and much more. All with a heart-shaped theme, you’ll find gifts for every occasion.
Cotswold’s life is all about celebrating the stunning landscape and outdoors, so it is natural that each town or village will have their own leisure or outdoor store, Broadway’s is Landmark, independently–owned and established since1997, this is a favourite on the High Street and stocks brands associated with quality and the countryside. And the staff aren’t just pretty faces, many have extended travel experience and can advise you on equipment and destinations.
Our final stop is at The Huntings, where you’ll find a ‘country-style’ cook shop with the lot – Table Manners. This store has everything from the basics, including well-known brands to economy labels, and a wide array of products suitable for gifting. The store has been in business for over 18 years and in this time has garnered a loyal customer base and a strong relationship with many of the leading brands, so if they don't actually have it in stock, they can usually order it for you.
