Surrounded by the steep hangers, off a drive, off a lane, off a minor road and buried deep in the valleys of Owlpen, this is a real cottage hideaway. In fact we say this is about as remote as you can get from the twentieth century in Southern England, yet with all the comforts you would expect from one of our cottages. Woodwells is a picturesque farmhouse built in 1877, set in the midst of a sunny clearing of wooded hills and at the end of the meadows.

OWLPEN and its environs have long been recognised as one of England's most romantic spots, described by Prince Charles as the 'epitome of an English village.' The Tudor manor (1450-1616) today stands within a formal garden of magnificent yews and at the centre of a clutch of medieval and traditional buildings, many of which are now converted as quite exceptional Cotswold holiday cottages. The whole estate, steeped in a thousand years of history, forms its own remote and picturesque wooded valley under the edge of the Cotswold hills in the south-west of England. There is a Post Office/village shop, two pubs, a brewery and an arts centre in nearby Uley. This fairy tale Cotswold stone farmhouse is approached up a long and sometimes bumpy but private drive. It leads behind the church and manor house, past Manor Farm and Over Court cottages, into the heart of the beech woods.
