Property Information

Number Two The Foundry (Visit Britain Four Stars) is a high standard holiday cottage located in the heart of the Forest of Dean countryside. The property, which dates back to circa 1800, has a rich history as one of the main warehouses servicing the once busy railway that once ran through the village. Today the owners have beautifully modernised the building to create a very high standard of self catering accommodation absolutely perfect for families or small groups alike. Internally considerable thought has gone into every detail to make guests' stay pleasureable and relaxing, with spacious rooms, contemporary touches and high quality materials evident throughout, including an oak kitchen and very comfortable beds. Externally, the cottage sits in the heart of the village (itself just steps from Forest of Dean's woodlands) with two pubs a stroll away. The delightful heritage steam railway which still has periodic use through the summer, can be viewed from the courtyard! In our opinion this is a real getaway gem with something for everyone to enjoy - an excellent choice.

The Foundry is a converted warehouse built on the site of an historic ironworks which once had an enormous chimney stack (images at cottage!). Sadly this piece of history has now been demolished. The heritage steam railway runs directly behond the property, but don't worry this doesn't mean high speed noise, it is the end of the line and the trains are only a few times a week. The location offers absolutely superb cycling (along disused railway tracks) and walking. Nearby are places of interest including the RSPB Hagshead Nature Reserve, Go Ape! activity centre, plus many more. Slightly further afield  are the market towns of Chepstow, Ross on Wye and the particularly attractive Monmouth.

Local Information

Parkend is a pleasant and thriving small village in the heart of the Forest of Dean. The village is now a peaceful and tranquil location surrounded by woodlands, one of which is the RSPB Nag's Head Nature Reserve. There are delightful village pubs, and a cricket pitch right in the centre of the village, ideal for spending a lazy summer's afternoon.

The village also has Inns, craft shops, several listed buildings, and a village walk leaflet.
