“06/02/2024 Re: Spring Cottage, Winson Near Bibury, Gloucestershire.”

Date of stay: 02/02/2024 for 3 nights Unfortunately, whilst this cottage is without doubt a lovely cottage, very cosy and in such beautiful surroundings, there were a number of issues we had with it. I have listed below:- • Bin in sink cupboard was full of someone else’s rubbish, including a broken glass. We did not touch it and it was still there when we left • Dent in kitchen cupboard • This cupboard was also very dirty as obviously rubbish had over spilled onto the door and shelves ...

We did not touch it and it was still there when we left • Dent in kitchen cupboard • This cupboard was also very dirty as obviously rubbish had over spilled onto the door and shelves • Only 5 tablemats ! • Dead flies in bedroom light – this has been mentioned in other comments • Broken light shade in bedroom which fell off every time we used it • Dead woodlice and black bits all over the carpet in the lounge behind the television and surrounding area. We fully understand that the area contributes to insects etc but we live in similar surroundings in Wales and these had been there for quite a while • We were a group of 6 women in mid 60s and early 70s and as another guest has pointed out there is no enough seating for 6. When I booked it we assumed one sofa was a 3 seater, it is not, so for our entire stay someone had to sit on the floor • This sofa had a large rip in the back and the frill was hanging off • Same sofa has absolutely no padding in the seats so very uncomfortable and had a few stains on it. The sofa being uncomfortable has been mentioned in review before so why has it not been rectified • DVD did not work, the batteries in the remote control have leaked and are covered in battery fluid, this obviously did not work so we tried to turn on using the player’s controls but it still would not work. This was extremely annoying as when we go away together we really enjoy ‘movie nights’ and we all buy a DVD to play over the 3 nights. Due to the broken DVD player we could not do this. Everything should be in working over and checked before the next guests arrive to ensure this. • The downstairs shower – the grouting in the bottom tiles were dirty, the radiator was very dusty and behind the toilet was dirty • A lot of dirt and dust was found beneath the pipes and on top of the skirting – am not sure why all these pipes have not been boxed in as it is right through the house • One of the spotlights in the lounge was hanging down from its socket • A lot of the curtains where not hung properly or had come off the rail • There was a lot of dirty marks up the walls and on the skirting boards • There were no instructions in the book left for recycling, we had to put everything in black bags and in to the dustbins outside. Firstly we thought that maybe that area do not recycle but when we spoke to the person living in house opposite he said that they did recycle around there. For us this was appalling as we feel very strongly about recycling This is a lovely cottage but sadly needs a deep clean, new furniture, new carpets and basic renovations and maintenance. I am sending in photos to back up all the issues we experienced. We go away as a group every year in the winter and have never experienced these issues especially when paying nearly £200 a night and therefore feel we should be compensated as comfort and working equipment is essential when paying to stay somewhere which is advertised as such. Many thanks

The property

Spring Cottage is very much, and every inch, the quintessential English and Cotswolds cottage.

An 18th Century cottage set in an adorable little village just Outside Bibury (near Burford), it offers guests a wonderful option to sample the Cotswolds' at its most charming best.

Overlooking a beautiful garden and with a river gently meandering past its foot, you have the true picture-postcard location in just about every sense.

Inside each room throughout the cottage has a warm, welcoming feel, with delightful views across the open countryside or village.

We particularly adore the garden-to-river view from the cottage along with the seats perched on the rivers' edge from which to enjoy the world drift past, it is about as serene a location as you could possibly imagine.

The village of Winson is so typically Cotswolds that it is hard to imagine that anything has changed in the last 200 years, except for the odd car tootling through the local lanes...This is a family and friends' location, a chance to enjoy the fresh air, walking into Bibury (and the pubs of course) or to simply take in some breathtaking views on the many paths peppered across the landscape.

Heavenly! Note: Parking available on first come first serve basis at the top of the road, you will need to walk down to the property.

This may not be suitable for people with mobility issues, as it is quite a steep hill to and from the property.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £100.

About the location

BIBURY

Burford 9 miles; Bourton-on-the-Water 10 miles.

William Morris called Bibury ‘the most beautiful village in England” and today it is world famous as a village which best epitomises the English rural scene. At its centre is an outstanding Saxon church. So important is the village architecturally that the National Trust is closely involved in its preservation - Arlington Row, a row of weavers cottages was restored by the Trust in the 1970s and its distinctive roofline and gables are one of the most photographed scenes in the Cotswolds. The village has a selection of shops, pubs and tea rooms and a wider range of amenities are available in the nearby market town of Burford “Gateway to the Cotswolds”.
