At Hay Barn Cottage (4* Gold Award Rated) you can see why the Romans chose Coopers Hill on which to build one of their luxurious villas! Surrounded by open fields and woodland, Hay Barn Cottage enjoys simply stunning and breathtaking views across the valley to the surrounding hills and the village of Witcombe below. On a clear day you can even see the Welsh Mountains to the west. Though not Roman, the cottage is over 200 years old and today retains many of the old features that make this an excellent holiday cottage. Thick stone walls and massive oak beams are found throughout the property mixed with excellent mod-cons to make your stay comfortable. Outside there is a private garden, adjacent to surrounding fields, from where you can enjoy the peace and quiet of the countryside and local wildlife. One recent guest commented: 'Bill Oddie eat your heart out - within 2 hours of arriving we saw... a badger family, foxes and other wildlife all eating fruit within 25 yards of our door, AMAZING!'

There is a private and self contained garden with patio adjacent to the surrounding fields, with garden furniture and BBQ. For guests who enjoiy walking the Cotswolds Way is 200 yards from the cottage.

Coopers Hill is a famous spot as it is the location where the 'World Cheese Rolling Championship' happens, a mad cap event that occurs every May Bank Holiday and this is approximately 200 yards from your door. Otherwise there are many other, more traditional activities and attractions including many Cotswolds spots (Burford, Stow on the Wold etc), Cheltenham, Gloucester, Tewkesbury, Cirencester, The Forest of Dean, and further a field, Bath, Oxford and Hereford are all within an easy drive. Similarly, the famous Severn Bore (a tidal surge on the River Severn) is nearby too and if the timing is correct you will see a unique natural phenomena.
