Wye Valley and the Forest of Dean, home to one of the few remaining ancient forests in England. The River Wye runs to the west and forms the far boundary. Together these two areas provide some excellent walking and beautiful views. If you are driving there are a number of woodland walks to explore, Just Park up and wander the magical woodland walks.
Forest of Dean
One of England’s few remaining ancient forests the Royal Forest of Dean, covers 27000 acres. Formerly a royal hunting forest it is located between the Wye Valley and River Severn. For centuries it has been valued for its resources of stone, iron, timber and coal. Today it is a place of natural beauty and tranquillity, where birds like the famous peregrine falcon fly free amongst a wide selection of other wildlife.
Wye Valley
A designated area of outstanding natural beauty, the Wye Valley boasts one of the most beautiful sceneries in Britain. With its spectacular gorge thorough which the Wye flows along the border of England and Wales. There are numerous walks and places to visit on the 14 mile stretch of river from Monmouth to Chepstow. These include viewpoints such as “Eagles Nest” and “the Devils Pulpit”, which are some of the highest inland cliffs in Britain. Also located on this stretch of river is Tintern Abbey. There are a number of great walks from here, many of which link to Brockweir with its Moravian Church and local Pubs to take that well deserved rest. Walking There are several long distance footpaths in the area including The Gloucestershire way, Wysis Way, Offas Dyke National Trail and Wye Valley walk which can be linked up to create several picturesque and impressive circular walks. In addition they can be linked up with numerous forest tracks and ancient roadways.
